Biographical sketch:

Billy Womack, a barber in Woodbury TN, was a  well-known and well-respected fiddle player.  He won a number of fiddle contests and played professionally with Carl Tipton and others.

Scope and content:

These jam sessions by Womack and sundry guitar, bass, and banjo players were taped at various dates and locations in the Woodbury area.  The only performer other than Womack who can be identified is guitar player Harry Smith, also of Woodbury, who participated in virtually every session.

The sessions included renditions of both traditional and popular secular tunes and scattered gospel songs.  The performance logs prepared by audio specialist Bruce Nemerov which follow list all of the tunes played by Womack and his colleagues.

Audio visual materials are filed first by format, then by tape number in the audio visual archives.
